Power of Berries

What are Phytonutrients?

Phytonutrients represent organic compounds derived from plants that exert influence over our genetic activity. An advantageous aspect of phytonutrients lies in their capacity to activate genes that combat diseases while inhibiting those that contribute to illness.

Furthermore, effective antioxidants, which are phytonutrients, are abundant in various fruits and vegetables, particularly berries. These compounds imbue plants with their distinct flavors, colors, and aromas, as signified by the prefix “phyto” meaning “plant.”

In the pursuit of optimal health, antioxidants serve as invaluable allies. They counteract detrimental agents such as free radicals present in cigarette smoke, air pollution, and certain foods like fried items, trans fat-laden products, and those high in added sugars. Additionally, excessive sun exposure and common environmental pollutants contribute to the production of free radicals. Fortunately, the body generates antioxidants to combat these harmful molecules, and a well-rounded diet serves as an excellent source of these protective compounds. In more scientific terms, antioxidants play a pivotal role in thwarting the detrimental effects of oxidative stress.
