Exciting Announcement: Oishii Launches Koyo Berry!
In a groundbreaking move, vertical farming leader Oishii has introduced the Koyo berry, the latest addition to its strawberry lineup. Joining the esteemed Omakase Berry, the Koyo Berry offers a unique flavor profile that promises to captivate taste buds. Each tray of Koyo Berries is meticulously cultivated to ensure they are non-GMO, pesticide-free, perfectly ripe, and consistently available year-round.
Derived from the Japanese word for “elated,” Koyo is a Japanese cultivar traditionally cultivated just outside Tokyo during the winter season. Known for its refreshing sweetness, balanced acidity, fragrant aroma, and delightful firm texture, this strawberry is a true culinary gem. Grown in Oishii’s state-of-the-art indoor vertical farms, these nutrient-rich berries benefit from hyper-local cultivation practices.
The CEO and co-founder of Oishii proudly stated that the introduction of the Koyo Berry aligns with the company’s mission to establish a legacy of providing pristine, flavorful strawberries unlike any other. Available for purchase through FreshDirect in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, the Koyo Berry will soon expand its availability to other markets, including Los Angeles.
Since unveiling its inaugural strawberry, the Omakase Berry, in 2018, Oishii has been at the forefront of indoor vertical farming. Operating three cutting-edge indoor vertical farms, including two near Manhattan and one in Los Angeles, the brand recently inaugurated its flagship Mugen Farm. Spanning 74,000 square feet, this facility incorporates pioneering technology to enhance Oishii’s precision growing process. Each harvest at Mugen Farm leverages advanced robotics and traditional Japanese farming techniques, resulting in a 60% reduction in energy consumption and a 40% decrease in water usage compared to first-generation farms.
Looking ahead, there is potential for collaboration between BerryCoat and Oishii to combine the delectable Koyo berries with BerryCoat’s innovative sustainable packaging. This partnership could extend the shelf life of Koyo berries, ensuring they can be enjoyed for an even longer duration while preserving their nutrients and freshness.
